Why we publish this

Houses are rarely just houses. They hold routines, histories, family changes, and — eventually — decisions about what comes next. Most of what happens in a home never appears in a listing, and almost none of it is captured by a market report.

The House Between Us is a small publication about that part: the people, the places, and the long stretch of ordinary life that takes place before, during and long after any transaction. Real estate is the lens. People are the story.

Who writes it

We are Ronna Brant and Danielle Palo — a mother-and-daughter team at First Team Real Estate, known as The Brant Team. Between us we have worked with Huntington Beach homeowners for more than thirty-five years, much of it in South Huntington Beach and the Moffett Tract, where we've handled 198 homes. We are Hall of Fame recipients, which we mention here and then mostly leave alone; it is not the interesting part.

The interesting part is what the work actually consists of. Listening more than talking. Preparing a home properly rather than quickly. Advocating for a client's goals rather than our own timeline. Saying the honest thing about price, condition and timing, including when it is not what someone hoped to hear. And staying in touch with people long after there is any transaction left to discuss — which is how you come to know a neighborhood rather than merely sell in one.

What we spend most of our time on now

A great deal of our current work is with longtime homeowners and empty nesters thinking through a next chapter: whether to stay, what a move would involve, how to plan one without it becoming an emergency. That work looks less like real estate than people expect. It looks like valuations, timelines, honest conversations with adult children, and coordinating organizers, movers, estate-sale companies, attorneys, CPAs and senior service providers so no one has to assemble that list alone.

The best moves aren't rushed. They're planned. Everything we do around downsizing is meant to be educational and unhurried — a way of making a decision on your own schedule, including the decision to stay exactly where you are.

A note on how these essays are written

The pieces here are observational. They describe patterns we see in homes and neighborhoods generally — composite scenes, not specific households. We do not publish client names, addresses or transaction details, and we do not invent quotations. When a story would be better with a real memory attached, we wait until there is one we can tell honestly.
